Paul Smith’s latest campaign remembers Paul’s beginnings as a shopkeeper in Nottingham.

The new campaign is photographed inside a stylised recreation of Paul’s first shop. One scene invites you inside a true-to-size replica of Paul’s original space on Byard Lane in Nottingham, while a second has the models step onto the shelves.

Within this setting, the autumn/winter ’19 Paul Smith collection offers an updated take on traditional British outdoor clothing.

A 1930s British riding jacket in thick cavalry twill provided early inspiration for the collection. Updated versions of classic riding coats and the use of Tatersall check patterns on tailoring and wool overcoats continue the rural theme.

As a counterpoint to the more traditional elements in the collection, the New Masters print series adds bold colour and expressive print. It combines classic floral arrangements with colourful animal prints and digital imagery, referencing the clashes in style and tone that occur on Paul’s bookshelves.

The women’s collection treads similar ground to the men’s. Strong overcoats are matched with colourful floral prints from the New Masters series. Jersey leggings and tops with a tonal leopard print add visual texture and subtle colour to classic looks.

Warm trapper hats have been crafted from faux fur for men and women and are available in strong colours such as mustard and burgundy alongside the more traditional navy.

Finally, the campaign is rounded off with a playful recreation of a famous image of Paul, taken in his first shop.
