Heaven Scent – Festive Candles at Ormonde Jayne

Ormonde Jayne captures the essence of Christmas in a limited-edition collection of Three Festive Scented Candles.

Inspired by glistening snow, pine cones, and log fires, Ormonde Jayne creates and pours every candle by hand from their studio in Kent. Using the purest and most chemical-free wax available and the same high-quality oils as the fragrances, the Festive Collection is presented in three individually designed jars, each with a gold-coloured metal lid.

Mystère £80

A great performing candle. The perfume lifts out and sings in perfect harmony. It sparkles and twitters quite charmingly, enveloping the room lavishly with sybaritic pleasure.

Etoile £80

Fragranced with warm, festive notes of mandarin, cardamom, cinnamon, bay, amber and tonka, this candle creates the perfect Christmas scent.

Nocturne £80

Light it and realise this is the most beautiful scented candle for the festive season. Inspired by fireplaces, open log fires, pine cones, cedar wood and embers.

THE FINE ART OF CANDLE BURNING by LINDA PILKINGTON

  1. Ensure the first burn is lit long enough for the wax surface to be entirely melted to the edge of the glass.
  2. Trim the wick before relighting, making sure the wick is still centred and straight.
  3. If the wick has dried off-centre, light the wick and gently manoeuvre back to the centre using the matchstick. The wick may now be too long and puffing out black smoke. If this is the case, blow out the candle, cut the wick and relight.
  4. Keep the candle clean, use kitchen roll to wipe the residue off the top of the glass.
  5. Position the lit candle away from draughts and flammable materials. Do not burn candles on surfaces susceptible to heat damage.
  6. Never leave a lit candle unattended or near children and pets.
  7. Never allow the candle flame to touch the side of the glass.
  8. To extinguish the candle, simply replace the gold lid to starve the flame of oxygen. Leave to cool before picking up.

James Tower: Ceramics, Sculptures & Drawings – 7 – 30 September 2022

Erskine, Hall & Coe are delighted to present an exhibition of work by artist, James Tower (1919-1988).

This exhibition aims to present the many sides of James Tower’s artistic explorations. It encompasses not only his ceramics, but also sculptures, bronzes and works on paper that help to remind us of his beginnings as a painter.

The majority of the works in the exhibition have come directly from the Tower family, with the earliest dating from 1952 and the latest from 1986.

This is the second solo exhibition by James Tower at Erskine, Hall & Coe, and as with the first it is a team effort with the Tower family who have helped in many different ways. In particular, we are grateful that Tower’s children, Theresa and Nicholas have contributed a text looking back at the extraordinary experience of growing up with Maureen and James.

Accompanying the exhibition is a catalogue which contains extracts from Tower’s archive of papers. This is a fascinating resource that reveals the artist’s creative perspective and making process, as well as the complex life he led. Some of these writings have appeared in the two important books on Tower by Timothy Wilcox: The Ceramic Art of James Tower (2012) and James Tower, Ceramics, Sculptures and Drawings (2019).

Sara Flynn – 8 June – 7 July 2022

Sara Flynn – 8 June – 7 July 2022

Erskine, Hall & Coe are delighted to announce an exhibition of new work by Sara Flynn.

A catalogue accompanying the exhibition will include an essay by Andrew Bonacina, Chief Curator at the Hepworth Wakefield, an extract from the which can be read below:

Sara Flynn’s relationship with porcelain has been a long and passionate one. A demanding partner, Flynn has worked with and against the clay’s intractable qualities to create sculptural vessels that appear as if they have only temporarily found their form, or might continue to evolve and shape shift. Perhaps what we encounter is only a momentary truce between artist and material? Each work might aspire to a certain shape or volume but Flynn readily admits that it can take unexpected directions. These are vessels that are resolved yet always questioning; they are so compelling because they are charged with an ongoing sculptural potential.

Two large white bowls at the heart of this group of new works embody Flynn’s process and material relationship with revealing clarity. Like most of Flynn’s work, they began life on the wheel, their delicate walls teased upwards to form shell-like volumes that cup the air.

The exhibition will consist of thirty-three works in porcelain, including one 7-piece installation, and will be the artist’s sixth solo exhibition with Erskine, Hall & Coe.
