Pleats Release Me – the new Concertina bag from Paul Smith

New for spring/summer ’16, the colourful Concertina bag adds a fresh signature shape to the Paul Smith women’s bag collection.

Made in Spain using exquisite Italian leather, the Concertina bag is a classically proportioned women’s bag hiding flashes of hidden colour. In true Paul Smith style, the confident use of colour adds new life to a traditional design.

The Concertina’s distinctive design can trace its roots back to South America, as Paul explains:

“On a trip to Argentina I spotted the most amazing couple dancing tango in the street. As they danced this guy was playing a traditional concertina next to them. I’m famous for my use of colour and stripes and I suddenly thought the folds of the concertina could work on the pleats of the bag. Here it is!”

The vibrant colours that define the Concertina are drawn directly from the optimistic palette of the spring/summer ’16 women’s catwalk collection, which in turn paid tribute to David Hockney’s unmatched ability for combining colours.

Presented in the Serpentine Sackler Gallery last year, the bag became an instant focal point of the show.

The Concertina bag is available in three styles: a tote, a more classically proportioned handbag and a clutch.
