E.B. Meyrowitz Bespoke Service

10 June 2016

The expertise of the atelier lies not only in the design and craft of the frame, but also in their long-standing ability to create unique pieces tailored specifically to the individual. As such, for the most discerning patrons bespoke service is offered.

Grounded in Tradition

E.B. Meyrowitz has furnished the finest bespoke eyepieces for over 145 years. Generations of master spectacle makers have continued the tradition of meticulous and diligent craftsmanship all in the way of creating the perfect set of frames.

Crafted to exact specifications – be that the material, the colour and the fit, one can rest assured that the bespoke experience will result in an eyepiece cherished and enjoyed for many years.

Comprised of the finest master craftsmen and budding apprentices, E.B. Meyrowitz holds a wealth of experience in the ranks of its artisans. With an unmatched commitment to the discipline of frame making, a philosophy has not only been created and upheld but handed down through the generations.

Design Process – An All-Encompassing Approach

With as many as twenty-three separate measurements noted and every detail of a patron’s lifestyle and needs carefully considered, designs are drawn up and sent to the workshop.

Spectacle Making

It is then that our craftsmen begin the masterful process of ocular metamorphosis. Materials are prepared and frames are worked on for the next ten to twelve weeks by our team of artisans.

Eye Examination – An In-Depth Evaluation

On completion of the frame, an eye examination is conducted and optical measurements are taken. Lenses of the very highest quality are prepared at the laboratory and fitted henceforth.

Finished Article

A final appointment is preferred so that the fit of the finished spectacles can be observed and any adjustments made in person. Required measurements are however taken at our initial meeting so as to make any necessary alterations on completion should new frames require delivery without a last fitting.

Small Works, Great Artists 28 February – 21 March 2024

Small Works, Great Artists 28 February – 21 March 2024

14 January 2016

Erskine, Hall & Coe present their annual Small Works, Great Artists exhibition for the sixth year running. The show features an eclectic selection of works by British and international makers.

Among the exceptional classic and contemporary works on display are a special group of cup and blade sculptures by Ruth Duckworth, which have come from the artist’s estate, and a stoneware vessel by Hans Coper.  Other highlights include both early hand-built and freshly thrown pots by Jennifer Lee and new porcelain vessels by Sara Flynn.

Works from further abroad include a group by Gutte Eriksen from the estate of Anita Besson, tea bowls by Ryoji Koie, a small piece by Morihiro Wada and a rare, beautiful green bowl by Alev Ebüzziya Siesbye, dating from 1984.

We’re also pleased to introduce the work of Daisuke Iguchi, a young Japanese artist working in Tochigi.  His elegant, hand-built vessels reflect the concept of Sabi, an appreciation of that which is aged and faded.  They’re included in important museums such as the Ibaraki Ceramic Art Museum and the Mashiko Museum of Ceramic Art, and we’re thrilled to have an example of his work in our show.

Though the exhibition’s focus is on ceramics, it also features a unique framed piece by potter, Shoji Kamoda that is made of ink on silk, a lacquer tea container with an incised Chrysanthemum flower design by Shodo Yamagishi, along with patinated cast bronze knives by Koji Hatakeyama.

The show represents the following artists:

Karen Bennicke, Claudi Casanovas, Hans Coper, Ruth Duckworth, Alev Ebüzziya Siesbye, Gutte Eriksen, Sara Flynn, Gwyn Hanssen Pigott, Koji Hatakeyama, Ewen Henderson, Daisuke Iguchi, Ryūichi Kakurezaki, Shoji Kamoda, Ryoji Koie, Jennifer Lee, Jacqueline Lerat, Shozo Michikawa, Suzuki Osamu, Lucie Rie, Hayato Sawada, Shiro Tsujimura, Morihiro Wada, Kazuo Yagi, Shodo Yamagishi
